Myles Burr – Expressionist Beat Poet from the Seacoast

Myles Burr is a photographer, poet, and performer based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He has spent the last six years working on the revival of the poetry scene from Portsmouth, NH to Portland, ME. Burr is a prolific performer with residencies at The Press Room and Earth Eagle Brewings. Burr hosts a series of Poetry events along the Seacoast and fronts the band Myles Burr & The Last Straws. He is the author of seven chapbooks, he is featured in five anthologies and is the author of one full length collection. A beat poet at heart, Myles specializes in freeform poetry and expressionism.
Recently Myles Burr & The Last Straws worked with Leesta Vall Sound Recordings to create some one of a kind direct to vinyl live recordings. Early Next year Burr will be heading to Château D’ Orquevaux in France for a stay at their three-week international artist residency.
Myles Burr’s live performances blend poetry and music into a theatrical experience often described as entrancing. “Voyeuristic Sun” Myles Burr & The Last Straws first feature length album was released in August of 2024. Their EP entitled “Futuristic Dread And Excitement.” was released July 2023. Burr is heavily influenced by the Beat Generation, and performers such
as Iggy Pop, Peter Murphy, David Bowie, and Nick Cave.
On the road, Burr has toured through most of The United States, performing anywhere from music venues, bookstores, coffee shops, and even the streets of New Orleans. There is beauty in every corner of the world, but what fascinates Myles Burr most of all is people and the human experience.
