Most recently, Nancy Mercado presented her work at the United Nations for the Committee on the Status of Women. Her writing appears in the anthologies Blind Persistence and Dear Nikki. She received the American Book Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Before Columbus Foundation. In recognition of the bicentennial of Frederick Douglass’s birth, she was named one of the Frederick Douglass 200 by the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives and the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University.

Mercado has presented her work at distinguished venues, including the University of Nantes in France, Lincoln Center, the Whitney Museum, and the renowned research and cultural institute Casa de las Américas in Havana, Cuba. Her work and voice have been featured on National Public Radio programs All of It and Talk of the Nation, as well as on the PBS NewsHour special America Remembers 9/11. She has also been featured in NYC Next.
