David S. Wills is the editor of Beatdom literary journal and the author of books on William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, and Hunter S. Thompson. Most recently, he wrote the first in-depth study of the 6 Gallery reading, a landmark moment in Beat Generation history.
Wills is the author of High White Notes: The Rise and Fall of Gonzo Journalism, which was released in 2021 on the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” in Rolling Stone. He has written many essays about Thompson, including one in 2025 that finally uncovered the origin of the word “gonzo.”
