Poets

Christopher Kubick

Christopher Kubick: Born in Queens. In kindergarten he wrote a Valentine’s play based on The Little Rascals. As a child he kept writing songs and poems. Attended Francis Lewis High School, one of the most diverse and populated public high schools in the United States. Started going to poetry open mics in senior year. Exposed to the MET and the MOMA by Danny Licul. More open mics. And in the audience at St. Mark’s Church to listen to Allen Ginsberg, Anne Waldman, and others. A fondness and curiosity for NY graffiti and music diversity. Comic books and an active pizza-snob. Attended QCC and arranged with Eddie Bujuans for Allen Ginsberg to read poetry in ’92 or ’93 at QCC. Bloomed in Amsterdam, Northern Ireland, Stockholm, Bratislava, and other European cities. Read poetry at NY Rant Eats the Beats, Rant poetry festivals in New Orleans, as well as Louisville and met a few lifelong friends such as Jordan Green and the greatest living American poet, W. Loran Smith. Lived in South Florida for a brief time, where he met Prince Buster and saw Derrick Morgan be crowned the “King of Ska.” Co-founder and lead singer of the defunct Yo!SCUNT and ex-lead singer of Skum City. Booked shows along with the help of others and booked the very first hardcore/punk rock show at the Hill Tap Tavern in Elmhurst, Queens. The chaos and struggles still exist, and he is his own worst enemy.
